How to find good mechanic

Trying to buy a van we found a huge workshop in east London, Ferry lane industrial estate, there we had a look a van that sounded all good but had a lot of rust on it, so we said to the guy we are going to see two more and will have to decide after (but not very happy with his one). The guy said well if you are here let me show you with what we are dealing here and took us into his workshop, huge place and probably 20-30 guys working in there, he said what we do here is building and rebuilding engines for cars, vans, lorries and basically anything that has an engine, have to admit his presentation fooled me and thought he is good maaaan.

So we me and my brother in-law left to see another one guy that was selling a vivaro , guess what this other guy had like 6 vans for sale, outside his workshop, that’s right he was a mechanic as well so I said, dam we wont find a proper dealer but the van looked nice no rust started first key, we thought good deal. Three days later was not so good broke on the motorway and decided to take it to the other mechanic that was selling the other van he phoned me later and said that the gear box is of a laguna car (on a van) and several other things wrong cambelt, clutch and so on fixed it in 3 days and charge £2500 but said to pay cash and charged 2000.For about 3 weeks we took it in and out had starting problems and they would lie that is one thing then the other and charge on and on.

MY ADVICE TO YOU DO NOT BUY YOUR CAR FROM A MECHANIC GO TO AN APROVED DEALER BIT MORE EXPENSIVE BUT SAFE.

AND DONT TRUST A MECHANIC THAT YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF. ASK FRIEND OR FAMILY
